I get the error message on my forum as well but everything is correct, avatar dimension, size. I even tried different avatars

Make sure ./uploads/avatars/ is CHMOD to 777. Do other uploads work, i.e. attachments??
all other uploads work, it's just avatars
i'm using iis\7 windows server 2008
no wait, no uploads work, but the uploads file is chmod 2 777
