Would it be possible for you to release any official specs regarding server performance with regards to the SEO friendly URLs? I know you can turn them off, but if there's no real dip in performance I might as well use them.

Same here it seems to be a band wagon they've jumped on. Me I love Opera and IE because both were designed for Windows unlike some

Performance is not a factor with SEO. Everything will still run as smoothly.
