Yep I think you can add ad codes too.

The side boxes I've had trouble with in the past mate, I think placing the winder banners in the middle of the forums and the stats would be better for you if you cannot get this working.
I only have one category, and one forum within it. I think you should keep it to one forum so the add will be visible.
Open up your index page templates, you should pop the code in there.
