you may only choose between "Instant activation", "Activation by email", or "Random pass delivered by email".

users dont need to press activation links in their email or nothing. they just register and are already activated.
Can I use a default group for new registred users ?
if they haven't activated by email or something, they'll be in Validating. once the activate, they'll be in members.
if you dont require validation, they'll be in members directly
im not sure if wat your'e asking is possible.
An option to activate users manually recently got included in myBB Gold.
