Seeing as this is a support Forums, and people tend to ask questions when they have previously been answered, I think that the "Show 'Similar Threads' Table" feature should be added to the community Forums. It could help users find more information on what they are currently looking for.
Hope its added.
Thanks
It's a pretty expensive query to run for larger forums like these which is why it was turned off in the first place
maybe show the results only when a member trying to post a new thread?

Unfortunately, you need something to compare against, so if the thread isn't posted, there's nothing to compare against...
Couldn't you have an ajax thing that picks keyword's from your title or post as you type them and compare them to other threads. It would be complicated but i have seen other forums with it (VBB i think has it).

That's probably even worse for server load, since you're potentially performing the query many many times...

That reminds me of a worse than failure. Let me see if I can find the article.
Yup, a quick search in my worse than failure RSS feed for "dentist" threw it back:

Well ubuntuforums.org used to have it and they are the largest forum i know of, Though what they have now is probably a better option. They have a button that called "check to see if similar threads exist"

That would work (but i am not sure that it would always get used...)

They may have a specialised indexing application (eg Sphinx) installed on the server.
Whatever the case, I doubt that MyBB will ever come with this thing by default.
I'll list a few forums that are larger than the one you posted.
*http://forum.runescape.com/forums.ws (what forum software do they use anyways??)
*http://www.big-boards.com/ (look in that list)
