I uploaded all the files from the 1.4 Beta folder (which I downloaded from here) to my directory, but am now receiving a '500 Internal Server Error' message when I visit my site. Does anyone have any advice in order to resolve this problem?

I had a similar problem before. Ask your host to enable ht.access or remove the file. I think its only used for the seo url's and its not required.
