Ok so I'm relatively new to Admin things and there are a few things I can't figure out.
(I'm not a root admin, just a regular one)
1. I want to install a new plugin. I have access to the plugin manager, but I can't figure out how to install plugins. Is there a permissions thing that could be accessed by the root admin that will put a button there to upload/install a plugin or do I have to go in via FTP?

2. can someone point me in the correct direction for a very simplistic guide for installing/customising themes?

1. You have to upload the plugins through FTP. See [Wiki: Plugins] (Broken link, head over to docs.mybb.com instead)

2. Try taking a read of [wiki]Admin CP Themes[/wiki]
