This might sound silly/I might be blind, but is it possible to set a group as a moderator of a particular forum, or can I only make the group a super moderator/do it for each moderator individually?

That feature is not currently implemented for MyBB 1.4. You may suggest it for a future version: http://ideas.mybboard.net/
