Is there any way a user can upload an image as an attachment and then display that image in the post rather than just having a small thumbnail showing? I am thinking of users who want to post an image but don't have their own web space for hosting images.

Fantastic - that's most helpful. Maybe next I should explore whether I can replace a seldom used toolbar icon with a modified icon to denote 'insert image tags but with the attachment URL ready-inserted'.....
