Is there a way to limit what a moderator can do in the Mod CP?
For instance I do not want my moderators to be able to edit of lift bans that have been placed on former members, is there a way to do this?

No, currently the Mod CP is all or nothing. There is no permissions.

I'd be really pleased if some restrictions could be added to the MCP too. *heads to ideas*

OK if I wanted to edit out bits of the Mod CP where would I look?
I want to take out the banning and announcements from the menu on the left in the Mod CP
Any pointers or help would be much appreciated.

Admin CP --> Templates & Styles --> Templates --> *expand your template set* --> Moderator Control Panel Templates --> modcp_nav
