I need to move my forum to a new host but preserve the post counts and threads. Can you guys give me some assistance?

if you have a cpanel login to it and you should see a link named "Backup"
On that page you should see "Download a MySQL Database Backup"
Download your mybb database as a gz extension.
If you have any mods download the mybb files through ftp.

On your new host go into the cpanel (assuming they give you one) go into backup and upload the gz file.
If you download the mybb files through the ftp then upload them to the new host.
You may need to edit config.php (whatever mybb calls it).
