I want to ask a member of staff, who develpers can take advantage of the new 'Plugin Updates' feature found in the Admin CP?

I believe you don't really need to bother with that. It only works if you update and submit your plugins to the MyBB Mods website. When you update your plugin there, people using the "Plugin Updates" function will be able to find it (since it queries the mods website)
