Try rebuilding your caches and revert to the default theme if you are using a custom one.

i tried to chmod the cache to 666
but when i check the properties of the
cache again it shows 766
it is kid of changing to 766 automatically.
what can i do?

As GG-Extreme said, rebuild your cache via the Admin CP

I just installed the myBB version 1214
and then upgraded to 1.4
and it worked perfect.
any one has the same problem can do the same thing
to solve the problem.

Hey, I had this problem when I first installed the forums. I used FileZilla for my FTP and I had the same problem where it would say it CHMOD'd to 666, but then reverted to 766 and I was like wtf? Anyway, I downloaded Core FTP Lite and it worked for changing the permissions.

same problem with filezilla. Interesting indeed.
But the problem wasn't actually with file permissions. It was that when I installed it, I installed it in a sub-directory. I need to change the url to my site. If Snor's fix doesn't work for you then it might be what I did.

Can you try entering to your ACP and set the Default Theme by clicking 'Force on Users'?
I got this problem during my upgrade but I did that for the Themes, and it went alright after that.
