I could have sworn that when I was setting up the forum that
they had a spam catcher .. where you had to type the letters
in the little box ... where the letters were disturted type thing.

I can't find it now

It's referred to as captcha.

It's part of mybb by default. Check admincp settings. It's activated by default too I believe.

thanks, I turned it off during install and stated getting spam, now
thanks to you, its back on and I hope stopping some of that ..
