Yeah I went into phpMyAdmin and deleted it in there.
MyBB Master Style only has an option to Export in ACP not delete
The problem is that if you just have MyBB Master Style the ratings problem still occurs as there is no ratings.css present, how do I delete MyBB Master Style (not MyBB default) and re-install it??

Go into your phpMyAdmin and you can delete the Master Style in there. Once done just upload the xml file in the install/resources/ folder. Once done you can add the templates under that for the Master Style. It's what I did and it worked.

But under that in ACP are the following errors:

Yeah that happened for me, but once I added another template it went away.
The reason it was saying that is because there was no parent themes.

i am still having this problem even though i have tried a couple of the things listed in this thread. i have re uploaded the xml file like metioned before but that didnt do it.
i have attached my mybb_themes and mybb_templates from phpmyadmin.
any help would be much appreciated.
