But up until today you didn't know your CPU was low end, so how much have you really learned in 2 years?

Ouch! A socket 478 2 years ago? You must've got tricked really bad...
I bought my computer 2.5 years ago - was high end in its day (Athlon X2 4200+), and I recall all the CPUs from Intel at the time were socket 775. The guy basically sold you a previous generation low end CPU...
As for overclocking, if the BIOS doesn't provide the option, then you're stuck (not sure if Intel locked their CPUs or something, can't remember; either that, or you got a low end motherboard which doesn't permit overclocking)

I wasnt really interested in hardware until this month

I don't think I've ever owned a PC, laptop, or even a cell phone for more than 6 months so I can't even remember what specs I had 2 years ago. LoL.
