(2008-08-31, 08:48 PM)DennisTT Wrote: [ -> ]You can either do something like this:
1) Rename index.php to forums.php
2) Rename portal.php to index.php
3) Add a link in your header template to link to forums.php
Or install my Portal Redirect plugin to redirect users once each day to the portal when they first visit (search it on MyBB Mods: http://mods.mybboard.net).
It depends on the modification. Some may not affect the portal, others will. The portal is activated by default even if you don't use it (for example, http://dennistt.net/forum/portal.php or http://community.mybboard.net/portal.php), so I don't think it really matters whether you activate it before or after.
If you were tying to follow DennisTT's post and did both rename the files and tried to use the plugin there is your problem. You can change the names of files like he says OR use the Portal Redirect plugin not both.
And if your talking about the link in the header of your theme you have edit that in the header too if you change the name of the portal.php so you would change that link to index.php instead of portal.php.

The requested URL /portal.php was not found on this server.

I have done it using this method: http://community.mybboard.net/thread-340...#pid239061
The last part will probably only work with the default theme though.
