I think there's really only so much we can do for people with disabilities... What colours do you suggest?

Deuteranope and protanope (red and green deficit) are the most common form of colour blindness, although as Zinga points out, it's difficult to come up with different alternatives.
Red and green are arguably "internationally-recognised" colours for right and wrong.
That's why to get round this, we use a tick and cross to show what we mean.

If you make an error in the registration form, a message will come up saying you did so, in addition to the field border changing to red. There should not be any problems with color blindness.
