I'd like to have a plugin that I had for 1.2, where you could display a message to members and/or guests on the index, and have the choice of 2 different messages, one for members, one for guests, and the option to turn off one message (for example have one showing to guests but not one for members).

If anyone had a stab at creating this, I'd like it if they could give me a dummy's guide to creating it, coz I wanna learn PHP and can't teach myself

Pretty much, but AFAICS there's no way to only have it show to guests... and I really wanted it in the same style as the forums, rather than the grey CSS.

You mean like if the person is not registered that they have a ad that tells them why you should register?

Well not an ad, just a message. So yeah, basically I just want a message to be shown to guests only.
