The guessing game should have closed with the release of PR2 (aka Gold).
Reading elsewhere here, suggests that it is now PR1.0 is the target for release.
This contravenes most Lottery and Gaming commission acts, in that RC4 is no longer available for download and PR2 is no longer considered as for the 'Beta-Testers only'. Therefore PR2 has to be considered to be the official release of the latest version.
You cannot move the "goal-post's" by giving it another name, unless everyone agrees to, and is given a second chance at guessing the release date for PR1.0.
Morally speaking, it should have been have been closed on the 31-08-2005, when RC4 became unavailable.
I don't agree, the gold version is supposed to be a final relaese, and we are still at a PR (so not final). So gold is just renamed to MyBB v 1.0 AND NOT MyBB v 1.0 PR2
What was affectionately known as 'Gold' has been released... There is NO other option.. If it was RC4 - Option to download PR2 a Beta release, I would agree with you. But there's not. So therefore, what was affectionately known as 'Gold' (As in the Guessing Game) has been released.

You can't have an open-ended raffle and change the rules as you go along.. It really should have been given a closing date; because those who vote 'late' have a very big advantage over those who voted earlier. And that's against the rules too.
Look at this way... RC4 is no longer available... So what has been released ??? (What we used to call GOLD), and you can't just say "well, we changed the name... So the raffle doesn't count, because we really meant the "NEXT" release.
We ALL got to know the next release as 'Gold', that's how it was promoted, and now it's arrived............. How can you argue against that, when it's in the Public Arena.
PR2 is prerelease 2, notice pre, which means BEFORE, therefore this is not the release it is a beta version. When 1.0 is released the competition ends, the same if they had done Gold PR2 the competition wouldn't have ended.

No its not - its still pre-release code.
1.0 is scheduled for release once we clear up the majority of bugs people have found - and with small updates coming every week, as a hint we're only one or two weeks away.
Our initial intentions were never to release PR2 for mainstream use however because of security concerns with the RC4 codebase we were forced to make a release of some sort.
The competition is not an official one, it's up to its creator to decide when he wants to close it with what release. It'd be interesting if he gave people a new turn for those who voted earlier.
