My Thread appearance is currently "Usenet Style Thread View" then now I am trying to return it back to the modern way but it doesn't working

If I'm not mistaken this was a bug in an early version of 1.4...
Are you doing this in the ACP?? Because I don't think changing that setting changes users' settings. IIRC the term 'Usenet' is only used in the ACP setting.

Well then AFAIK, you can't change what the users see, they have to do it in their UCP. For registered users, it should show whatever they have in their UCP, and the ACP doesn't change the UCP setting.
