Finally! someone else who has had MYBB in fantasico. I installed MYBB for the first time through fantasitco like a year and a half ago but no one would believe me that it was in fantastico!

I think fantasico is a good thing, i mean the more users the better right?

Yay and nay.
The thing is, when it installed 1.2.1 the current release was 1.2.12.
Also the MyBB Version check didn't work, unless it was 1.2.12.

So my thing against fantastico use and hosts that use it is:
-The host doesn't try to make it so that the software in fantastico is updated. (I'm sure there's a way!).
-They don't update the software when its updated.
-Most people that use it pull a phpbb on ya (And by that I mean that they themselves don't update their software then complain that "it's not very safe to use!").

Other than that, I do like fantastico. Sucks that they wont include MyBB.
Especially now that its GPL.
Fantastico and other self-installer's(so to say, i assume) would only benefit from including MyBB in their list of installable things. However, I'm sure it'll be added once the time comesWink But oh well, I suppose - enough people have it already, and the ones that are still using IPB and vB MUST be insane not to switch to MyBB; it's not like they'd lose anything. Plus, look at what they'd gain!!

I beg to differ... IPB and vB are specialist software that are designed for a purpose. Some of my projects wouldn't work if I just used myBB. But that's another arguement Shy

Fantastico is good but gets outdated very, very fast. Version 3 - with it's API - should allow for the most up-to-date MyBB to be listed in it... until then it will probably just lead to more headaches...

Oh I agree. It also describes why most businesses or major companies will buy forum softwares that may not be better than MyBB, but have their advantages.

What purpose would that be other than making money?

Not sure about vB, but when IPB first came out there was statements being made about it forever being free, we all know how long that lasted!!

Not really "free for ever". Matt said version 2 would be free, and indeed, 2.0 was free - if you were quick enough to get to it. Version 1 still is legal to run, so it isn't as if he lied - he just said from now on you have to pay for it. Most companies do something for the purpose of making money.

Anyway, IPB has the purpose of a community suite (their own propaganda), and it is. Forum, Gallery and Blog components is a community suite. vB... well I've never taken too much interest in it as I always found it crap to use, so I can't say much. But as an advanced piece of forum software, well it is an advanced forum software.

Oh no. Way before that Matt had stated IPB would ALWAYS be free. That was one of his reasons he gave as to why he left IBB. Which was because they wanted to go commerical. Which yes i find very hard to believe because of what did eventually happen with IPB.
Yes i have been around forever and a day.

Anyways i think part of the problem here is with others ripping this software elsewhere and only made worse because the developers here ( unlike the others ) dont get involved even though i believe they should. oh well.

What is that supposed to mean?

They'd be losing all the $$$ they spent to buy the forum software.

Really all you need is MyBB and a CMS (Or my method) and viola!

But people do have reasons to buy forum softwares. I like the HTML build of both MyBB and IPB. But when I tried the 2.3.5 demo, I was not surprised at all. It looks like it has no actual new features than 1.3.1-2.0. :| Which was a real let down. So here I am with MyBB.

Although I can see why people buy VB.

I wish I knew. I see the staff posting all the time. Not so much Chris anymore but Dennis, Ryan, Zinga, rh1no(probably spelt it wrong) are all over.
