http://www.miurareps.net/BB/admin/index....ule=config
http://www.miurareps.net/BB/admin/index....ig/banning

Which of the above can you access and which can't you access?

I can reach index.php, module=config as well as the other menu modules, style, forum, user etc.etc.

Can't launch anything from there
(2008-10-27, 06:59 PM)Tom.M Wrote: [ -> ]I talked to my host on this - jlee's actions of getting his domain on a whitelist cures the problem. Basically, as far as the tech explained to me, mod_security is activated due to Pattern match "(\\.\\./\\.\\.|/)".

He edited /opt/mod_security/whitelist.conf and removed ruleIDs from my domain - although this is in Apache 2, and is likely to be differ from server setup to server setup.

So the only thing you can do to fix this (realistically) is to contact your host, provide them a link to an ACP page you can't access (they won't need login details), mention mod_security and they can figure the rest out there themselves!

I will pass this on to my host

Nope
PM me a test admin account and your forum's link.
Well I sent a ticket to my host about the mod_security issue and they replied that they fixed it ...and lo and behold the fixed it!

Thanks for all the help

Just a strange question - do you have any other scripts (Coppermine, Wordpress etc.) installed on your server?
This is the 3rd person in this week that had serious hosting issues and they blamed mybb as the cause.

Maybe we need some sort of script to test mybb againt the host for requirements. It might help too for testing and troubleshooting problems. We can say "hey run this file and post results".

I suggest members use this too:
http://www.intodns.com

If you're having DNS issues then you will have site resolutions problems too.

They blame myBB because it's only myBB that isn't working. Now we know that whitelisting on mod_security works for these people's problems (including mine), we can now tell people what the problem is - and how to fix it - rather than scratching heads.

Doesn't myBB have a script at the beginning of install when it checks the host requirements? It's impossible to check for all these problems - in particular the problems these people were having... that's why we have support forums Smile
Mod_security only breaks MyBB when it is not configured correctly (i.e. a host problem). If it is configured correctly, MyBB can coexist quite happily with mod_security and other security extensions like Suhosin, etc.

The default htaccess.txt that comes with MyBB attempts to disable mod_security through the htaccess file.

I love the word "attempts" in that sentence... very effective!

Take my situation for an example - MyBB is the only script not working, therefore, a good 75%ish (more?) of people will assume it's MyBB's fault. This is when they come here and start to ask questions - it's a logical action to take.
