This is what I done to upgrade from 1.4.2 to 1.4.3, Is it right?
- Downloaded 1.4.3 Changed Files zip
- Backed up DB
- Uploaded all the files inside from cPanel with the overwrite box checked.
- Closed Browser
Will that be ok?
I also noticed in the check version section of the admincp it says im still running 1.4.2 - Can I change that...?

any advice? there was that file which contained the version info. but i don't remember which file
Well if you overwrite all the files it should say 1.4.3 so you can't have done it right. Try actually deleting the old file and uploading the new one.

I only did it to the changed files.
Yes I know but you said you overwrote them, try actually deleting the old files and then uploading the new ones. Sometimes if you set it to overwrite, it doesn't.

well i was doing this on XAMPP, so i am sure they are overwritten

Open ./inc/class_core.php. This file hasn't been changed. If it was overwritten it would have the new version number.
The only change to this file is the version.
But insure that you have in fact overwritten the files! Check the edits:
mybb_1402_patches.txt
If you just delete them and add the new ones you'll be sure it's worked or not.
Try a hard-refresh F5 to make sure you browser is displaying latest content too.

I deleted the changed files and uploaded the new ones.
