I'm finding that "forcing" a style to a user isn't what they want (after all, we all want more otions, no?
).
It could be worthwhile providing two skins - one which has horizontal, and one which has vertical. You just have to copy templates and the users get the best of both worlds, regardless of what they choose to be their "default" view.
True, but then you have to make 2 template edits to make them change on both which is a pain.

It's just an alternative from a user perspective...
