Well, I updated the forum software from 1.4.3 to 1.4.4 via FTPing the files,

First, I can't login, I get a MySQL error, and my host currently doesn't have any MySQL problems.

But I can't view any topics now, take a look.

try repairing your database via your cpanel or whatever you use

i did a backup before I updated, how would I repair it?

Did you run the upgrade script??

There is one?

All i did was just set all the files in FileZilla to overwrite if the source was new or the filesize was different.

You have to use the upgrade script.
It is inside the directory install.

Point your browser to the script: http://your_forum/install/upgrade.php.
Before that download a fresh install package, because there are fixed files inside, and upload them to your forum. This error will be fixed with the new package:
