For categories? I believe your talking about the forums themselves unless otherwise, I didn't understand what you're talking about.

There's no such plugin (that I know of) that exists for categories. If you follow the first link I gave you to forum icons, you can easily apply the same idea to categories...

I don't think you can have one for categories. Only think I can think of is to put an image at the start of the category name but I wouldn't recommend that as it would make a mess of other things.

A transparent image would work I guess - but making a mess of things depends on what their theme looks like...
