is there a mod or a way i can let the guest only view some threads?

You can edit the permissions of a forum to allow them access to view the thread lists of a forum or not, or allow them to see the thread contents itself or not... there's also this plugin to limit how many threads a guest can visit before them having to login: http://mybbsource.com/view/38/

No there isn't atleast not for 1.4 I think there might have been one for an earlier version. I would suggest just putting posts you want guests to see into a forum that they have access to and dis allow them to have access to anyother forum.
