Hi,
I've been using SMF for over three years now. I loved it at first, but lately it seems things keep declining with the whole package. First and foremost, the support is simply, in a word, awful. When posting a request for support, unless it's something so utterly simple that a noob could fix, well, it's a complete coin toss as to whether you'll get any support at all. Then there's the issue with poorly written and untested mods. Unless you're absolutely certain of a mod writers competence, you're literally risking the life of your forum and having to completely reinstall everything, because SMF just allows people to realease any old mod, regardless of testing or not. And today was pretty much the final straw for me. I apparently made the mistake of telling someone else that has had less than favorable results with support that I basically had the same problem. This resulted in an attack from on of their "Support Specialists" and another member of the forum, with nothing being said to either of them by an Administrator. (Sorry, I know you didn't really need the rant.)
That being said, I've been doing some researching and while I almost made the mistake of switching to phpBB, I looked over MyBB and I really think this is what I need as far as switching my forum over. My only question at this point is simply this: How difficult is it to merge the database from SMF to MyBB? I've never attempted anything like this before, so I'm somewhat nervous. I'm currently running SMF 1.1.7, if anyone needs to know.
Thanks,
Sabbz
Actually, you can just delete this topic. I created a test directory and database to upload the mybb forum up to and uploaded all the data from my db to the test and implemented the merging script and everything seems to be going smoothly.
