Do the MyBB 1.2 plugins work for the newest version?
No, they do not work for any releases except 1.2 releases.

I wouldn't go with 1.2. Yes, there are some plugins that only work with 1.2, but 1.2 will not be supported within the next 6 months (am I right?)

Most plugins have been updated for 1.4.x by now. What makes you want to stay on 1.2?? It's old and outdated and like RenegadeFan said, soon there won't be support or any more patches to it.
