I have a clean install of MyBB v 1.4.4 and don't know what I'm doing wrong. I haven't started using it and have had nothing but problems.

First of all - I'm unable to log out. When the script was set up, I chose admin name and password. When I go to Log Out, it doesn't log me out, it still shows User CP — Mod CP — Admin CP — Log Out options.

On the other hand, when I go to admin panel, each time I click any button, it logs me out and I have to re-log in over and over.

What gives? How come it doesn't work for me at all?

Mark
I made a thread about this and stuck it to the top of the forum about 2 hours ago, specifically to stop loads of threads being created about it...

Are you using the default theme? It's very likely you have the cookies set incorrectly.

An example of what they should be:

Your site is : http://www.domain.com
Cookie should be: .domain.com
Path should be: /

If your site is: http://www.domain.com/forums/
Cookie should be : .domain.com
Path should be: /forums/

If your site is http://forums.domain.com
Cookie should be .forums.domain.com
Path should be : /

Now if you can't get into admincp to do this:

From FTP open ROOT/inc/settings.php and alter the proper cookie settings from there. Make sure to save the file.

Now login to admincp, make the same changes and save. You MUST redo the changes in admincp and save them because the editing of settings.php is only temporary. That file is created every time any setting is altered or changed and that includes installation of plugins which adds or removes new settings. So altering settings.php is a dirty fix that's temporary.

Does this help you?

EDIT: Holy crap Matt..we just made nearly the same post...haha. Nice sticky sir.
I apologize for being such a newb and not reading the whole forum here.

However, even following your instructions doesn't seem to help. I have Cookie Path set to /forum/ which is correct, but Cookie Domain has a trailing slash at the end of the domain name (not sure if that's what causes problems). The trouble is, that I'm unable to change it. Each time I try, it boots me out and when I re-log in, it's the same again.

EDIT: Nevermind, let me follow labroca's instructions. Sorry :/
Yes, it's a default theme (basically nothing but a clean install of MyBB).
The cookie domain shouldn't have a / at the end.

And me and labrocca both said you need to edit ./inc/settings.php to do this.
Still doesn't help. I've edited settings.php manually, and it is now correct on the server (I've downloaded it again from the server to double check) yet I'm unable to make the change within admin panel. It boots me out when I hit "Submit" and subsequent log in shows the submit was disregarded.
So you corrected them, then when you tried to edit them again in the ACP, it didn't work??

What's your forum URL??
forum URL is --> http://www.thezeitgeistmovement.ca/forum/

I've tried to CHMOD inc/settings.php to 777 - that didn't make a difference either. When I download the file from the server, I can see it is corrected there, however logging into admin's CP doesn't alter anything. I press "SUBMIT" it boots me out, and when I log in again, it's not changed there Sad
You're doing something wrong. Also try a fresh browser and to delete existing cookies. Trust us...you are doing something wrong. This is common.
I'm sorry for causing such needless ruckus here and not posting in existing forum. I know I must be doing something wrong. All I want is to make it work, I'm sincerely not trying to be a smartass
clearing cache (I've deleted all temp files and cookies) plus restarting browser helped.

Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate lighting fast response and apologize for asking question that's been answered million times before. It looks like my initial issue has been resolved, I'm gonna mess around with the board a little more, hope it will work for me now

PS - any ideas why first forum category is so disproportionate compared to the rest?
