Does anybody know how you put youtube vids onto the forum, ive tried using the embed code that is supplied with youtube but i just get the embed code shown. Do i need some special code for the forum or something like that

Yeh mycode is what you need there may be one round here look in plugin forums but MyBB central has one i know.

well, all i can say is, the code is in the plugin folder, ive activated the plugin, and put this into my post as a test

all it shows me is the code, i must be doing something wrong then.
I did notice though that the plugin had this problem with different url's until it got updated to 2.1, so i wonder if the plugin i have just installed is the old version 2.0

unfortunately the plugin version says 2.0 so it is the old one that has this problem, looks like im going to need the updated version. Will clicking on update plugins in the AC do that for me

No that won't because that only works with plugins in the MyBB Mods section IIRC. And as I said, the version I gave is the latest version, I just downloaded it, there is no updated version from that....
