I am still having problams with my email not working for mybb tom l told me to sing up for a gmail account and use it for my smtp so i did now i get this error
Unable to connect to the mail server with the given details.<br /><br />10060: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.
so since i can not figure this out going to try a few things get a domane name from godaddy or setup a smtp server if that does not work i will try phpbb wich i my opinon is not as good but maybe it will be easyef to figure out
You'll need to check with Google what the correct SMTP details are for the emails. I use it quite often and it works well.
I agree, the SMTP was a bit of a pain to set up for me. Gotta make sure each detail is perfect. Try Googling some different information and trying different options you are shown. Some may not work but you'll only need to find one that does. If that doesn't work, report back and we'll try and help further.

i used telnet put telnet smtp.gmail.com 465 got blank screen
'telnet smtp.gmail.com 587 got 220 mx.google.com ESMTP h4sm1174291nfh.25
you have to also in GMAIL Acoount do this
IMAP Access:
(access Gmail from other clients using IMAP)
Status: IMAP is enabled
my server time out is 1 min not 5 should it be 5 and mine is not imap pop 3 everthing eles is ok i will try what you showed useing windows live mail but that does not matter pritty much the same
