MyBB Community Forums

Full Version: Unofficial MyBB versions. Wouldn't count as a "fork" would it?

Let's say some one heavily modifies their version of MyBB, without plugins. Like file edits, and renames their version to something like. MyBB 1.4.X (Violent Violet).
Would it count as a fork, and would it get support?
If you release your own version of MyBB, then I think you automatically relinquish all methods of support.

If you were to do it, I'd call it Violent Violet (1.4.x)...
Well, obviously you couldn't get support. If there have been file changes, how would we know whether a problem has been caused by our code, or the changes?? If we're faced with an error we go by what MyBB has, if you've added something oer changed something, how would we know what those changes were and what could cause the problem?? Once you edit it or release it udner your own name, you cannot get any support here.
Anything not released by the MyBB group and is not a verbatim copy of an official MyBB release is considered a fork
If we didn't develop it, we can't support it. That's the way it goes when you edit something. Your basically just re-developing.
