Is there some reason that RSS won't work with these online services? They work fine through Vienna, Safari and Firefox....

Sure. Google reader and Newsgator are not seeing new threads posted to the forum, simply not picking up the news feeds at all. However, Firefox, Safari, and Vienna, which are local apps are all picking up the feeds.
To make sure I had the correct feed addresses, I imported the OPML files with the working feed addresses from my RSS reader on my computer to the web based readers.
Just try signing up for a Google Reader account and see if it works with your forum, Matt.
Appears to work ok, I can see threads with Google Reader.
