I am new too! I am thinking about upgrading all my PHPBB forums to mybboard I am just a bit worried incase something horrible goes wrong

I believe there isn't a convertor for phpBB => myBB. Unless you will manually do it, which is extremely difficult and time consuming. Once a convertor is released, you shouldn't worry about errors or failures. Just make sure to back up your database before converting.
