A friend of mine has been bugging me to let him redo my website. He is not a professional but he does have some skill. My original website is

Well, personally I would keep your design over anything. It seems to suit it. But as for him redoing it. You could tell him to go ahead and do it and then post a poll here and ask us which one we like better. Overall, this is your decision.
The site you have is better than the sites your friend has designed. Maybe ask him to make you a proposal of his design and show it to you first and if you think it looks better let him go ahead.
His sites are awful. Your site is fine.
On second looks your friends sites looks bodged and stuck together like it was done by someone learning to build websites. Your site looks professional and sleek, don't let him touch it unless he has improved greatly from when he made his sites.
Your current site looks good.
Your friend may be enthusiastic but someone needs to tell him that his quality needs to be stepped up a notch if he wants to continue designing websites. If you're a good friend you'll be the one to tell him, whether it be after he shows you a proposal or not.
