Does the capability exist in 1.4 to moderate only unregistered users? That is, I'd like to allow unregistered users to post anonymously, but be moderated before the posts went live. Registered users would not normally be subject to pre-moderation in that way.

How about profile defaults? (I've seen the plugin but it only covers a few values). I'd like to default new users to "hide my e-mail" -- and I was also looking to see if I could completely turn off the facility for users to e-mail each other through the board -- is that possible easily?
