Im Prettty Sure You Can Upload Unlimited Until You Run Out Of Room On Your Server.
You can upload as many as your server will hold.

Well if you know an average of the size of the avatars you'll be uploading, you can check your host's control panel to see your total allowed space-used space/(divided by) the avg.(average) size of the avatars.
