It wont automatically resize either. Is there a way to allow a larger size? (i am pretty sure there is, lol, but I would like the auto resize to work)

Admin CP > Configuration > Show Thread Settings > Avatar size should do the trick.

If it is when you are trying to upload i am guessing the size in bytes is to big.
