im not sure if this suggestion has already been made, but i think it'll be cool to throw AJAX into the MyBB features.
We're already looking into the possibilities Smile
btw i just saw that in the jscripts folder there's a file called ajax. is that a real working ajax?
I believe that is a test AJAX file, but don't pin me on it.
It's the javascript I developed to eventually use in MyBB - it works, however the autocompletion is a bit buggy with IE (mostly)
Why does everyone want AJAX? Its a fad like flash was a few years back.
Agreed; it's the buzzword of the moment. There are, however, some specific implementations of it with certain forum softwares such as the inline subject editing and all that business which is kind of useful.

Just using it 'because it'd be cool' is a terrible idea though, especially when more conventional and widely supported methods do the job fine.
Sounds like an diswash clean product.
There are certain autocomplete functions where it might be handy. For example, in a PM. Since you have to type it in, and lots of people mix the case of their usernames, this would be very handy.

Someone posted a link to an autocomplete textarea in the modification forum a few weeks back. It was kinda neat but tailored to only a few application/uses.

Closing/opening threads on the fly, moderating threads, ratings, automatic update on shoutbox. All have pros and cons associtated with them. Inline editing might be a cool feature too which I might give a go (techinical challenge as always more than being useful Toungue)

EDIT:

Not as good as Cillit Bang though!
I'm not saying not to use AJAX, its just there are some people that think AJAX is the next big thing. Sure its useful, but you gotta stop and think, 'Does this really need it?'

AJAX is cool, I'll admit that. But does MyBB really need it? I mean 9 times out of 10 I have JavaScript turned off when I surf.
