But the site came out great. I got lots of complaints about the name. So boom, I go out and get
www.newstalklive.com. I was talking to atomic about this the other day and he said it was easy to put the site under the new URL. How do I do this cleanly?? My host is GoDaddy. Anyone?
Thanks!
The way I did it on cPanel (should be a similar way for you) is like this... first you change the nameservers of the domain to the ones of your server (you do this wherever you bought the domain), and then you add that domain to your hosting account, so it's connected to you, and you usually give it a document path that it will load, for example, /forums/, to make it point to the /forums/ directory (just an example). Then you can update your Board URL and cookie settings to point to the new domain, and remove the old one from your hosting account.
I dont have a /forums. I have mybb loaded right to the / This already sounds like a train wreck waiting to happen, lmao. All of the domains were bought thru Godaddy. Do you think if I called them, they would/could walk me through it? I dont want to blow the site up. I did that last year trying to accomplish the exact same thing.
As I said, that was just an example, it just needs to point to the directory with the files. And you can't really mess it up, if you want until you see the new domain is setup and pointing to the forums before you remove the current one, it'll be fine. They might be able to tell you the exact steps a bit better though.
