I am attempting to make my own theme and i have download the GDK. I want to change the background if the icons from blue to black but i cannot work out how. Could someone please tell me?

I found this problem in CS4, the way I got around it was to either select it with the lasso or use the wand.
I found that Fireworks CS4 actually picks up a layer though...

Ok, this should help.
Click on the little icon to open the group.
You should then see.
Icon
Text (with a few "sub" layers, or whatever they're called)
Base.
The one you need to modify for the background to be red would be Base --> Gradient Overlay.
(By double click on it, or on the layer named Base, then clicking on Gradient Overlay, on the left side.)
Then just modify the gradient to your likings.
