Is there a way to make the forum categories on the main index page UNexpanded by default?

One of our sites has a rather elaborate forum structure, and I was thinking it might be better to let users open the categories that interest them rather than displaying everything all at once.

You could probably just remove the code that collapses them from the templates.

You can try Matt's suggestion, or maybe use tabs?
