I think that if you just go to http://forum.url.com/member.php and no action is set, just the member.php file is loaded - it should redirect the user to the main forum.
I believe frostschutz has suggested something similar... that may be for a blank misc.php but the idea's similar, not to have a blank page.

I already implemented that a lonngggg time ago for 1.6.
