I think that if you just go to http://forum.url.com/member.php and no action is set, just the member.php file is loaded - it should redirect the user to the main forum.

I believe frostschutz has suggested something similar... that may be for a blank misc.php but the idea's similar, not to have a blank page.

If the change is for the better, it's a feature to me. Besides, I like to get excited for new versions.
