When you download MyBB 1.4.5 it comes with instructions of how to upgrade and make sure to back up your database/files.

Basically upload the changed files package in the announcement and go to yoursite.com/install/upgrade.php, choose 1.4.4 from the list and follow the wizard. make sure you make a database backup first.
