I am still using 1.4.4 and still have people trying to register but getting the captcha problem even though I applied the patch given. Does 1.4.5 fix that?

By upgrading you won't have this bug anymore.

1.4.5 has the patch that was available for 1.4.4 for ages and if that didn't work for you you didn't do something right at some point.

Why are you afraid?? Which bit are you unsure about??

Just make sure you back up the database and files before you upgrade so if something goes wrong then you can always revert back.
