Is there any mod or any built-in feature that allows for the creation of custom profile felds. This wuld be extremely useful to me because I'm building a gaming clan forum and I'd like registered users to reveal their in-game nick.

Also, is it possible to make so that a usergroup is made default to users when they register.
Ie. as soon as a user registers his usergroup is "Trooper"
Trooper is the starting rank of the clan.

You could either rename the 'registered' group to 'Trooper', or use
this plugin. Personally I'd rename the group but it's up to you.
