Is there a way to change the color inside individuals boxes on the main index and such, such as the post count boxes and stuff like that?
Or that I can use a bg image with CSS repeat?

no, because they uses trow1 and trow2 css style sheet and you change only colours of thses two through global.css template,

For why you want to repeat that image, It is already repeated x-times in XML file of the theme to cover the whole surface of the box header...
Then I can change those into bg images with CSS repeat, I've got a faint idea, lol.
