I install Windows on my home computer. I do not deploy it from a server, but I do know that I have one install of Windows.

Is it a miracle?

Hes asking how can he tell from an overview if he had a lot of computers.

Indeed. I can install Windows on 100 computers and I don't need any form of server to know it's installed on 100 computers, just like I can install on one computer and not require a server to know it's registered on one computer.
I have a copy of Windows Server 2003 and XP, and I just use the same key on multiple computers.

From a business point of view it gets hard. In a hectic day do i have 145 computers? or 146? Sometimes you can't run and check. Maybe someusers have the software they need. Some have office, some only photoshop, and a basic word processor. We have this at the heath unit i help out at.

From an administration point, that's illegal.

He wanted the number, not what PC has what on it. For numbers, surely you would've paid for a certain number of licenses, so just check the accounting records.
And it's always a good idea to record what you install where if this is an issue anyway.

My dad is the IT manager for a company that pays Microsoft a fair bit of money each year, so they have keys for basically all of Microsoft's products, which can be used infinite times. I just use the keys.

I doubt it.... It is more likely that he just bought say 200 licences because it was just cheaper to buy that quanity and just use them as they need them. So there are probably just spare licences in the pool.

I very much doubt that Microsoft would sell infinite licences.

The company is a world wide one, and apparently, they pay 100's of thousands each year for unlimited use of the keys.
